To end the year...

some pictures over the Christmas. :) Blessed new year everyone.

All I Want For Christmas

starting classes soon and don't feel like starting classes. still enjoying my break...holidays, let me count the ways I adore thee...

sorry haven't been updating this blog as of late. Kinda losing the drive to sit patiently in front of the computer and write about things that amuse or not. Maybe I should switch the blog to a more concentrated blog instead of just ramblings of me and whatnots.

Even if it's a little painful...

This is a photo post. I promised.

Photobucket
Fly me away to a higher place...

It is a quiet street...not! Just that the traffic lights were green.

Photobucket
The new and the old...highrise versus old shoplots.

Photobucket
Have a little fruit yoghurt which cost about 20HKD, if I remember correctly.

Photobucket
Only in places like these you find a open space with nice benches and trees and all and even sound system that plays relaxing music...on top of a shopping complex!

Photobucket
Open out to the distant sea...

Photobucket
I love you, shopping district!

Photobucket
I love you, efficient public transportation!

Photobucket
I love you, night scene from the peak!

Photobucket
It doesn't matter it pictures have been taken a few hundred times....

Photobucket
I love you, double decker buses!

Walking in Hong Kong is never a joke. Finding seats to rest is also not a joke, especially in a shopping mall. Compare Malaysian shopping malls to Hong Kong shopping malls: Got plenty of seats...no seats!

Writer's Block

I hate it the most when I can't think of a plot progression.

It irritates me to the max but I can't do anything about it.

Or can I?

I lack creativity and my time is running short.

Happiness

What is true happiness?

Sorry I've been neglecting this blog of late.

Have been burying my head in scripting synopsis. Yes, I am mad. I am writing a 20 episode drama. Call me mad.

And I need to take a break to get more plot ideas. It's getting less original the more I spend more time on it. Gah gah gah.

Sing this song to your loved ones today!

The one that knows how to make me smile
There is no one as talented in that as you
So easily you enter my heart
You complete tomorrow's sweet dream

As the whole universe is immense and without borders
Every star and planet, no matter how small it is
Surrounds and orbits around you

The one who loves me, no one else but you
I am only content in having to protect the happiness that you have given me
The one who loves me, no one else but you
Maybe I will cry while laughing
But the person is you so I'm not tired

The one who knows how to make me cry
Is definitely the one who will affect me the most
Even though in my heart you leave a scar
You light up the stars at the same time

As the whole universe is immense and without borders
Every star and planet, no matter how small it is
Surrounds and orbits around you

The one who loves me, no one else but you
I am only content in having to protect the happiness that you have given me
The one who loves me, no one else but you
Maybe I will cry while laughing
But the person is you so I'm not tired

Look at all the possible meetings
It's only with you
It's like a heaven sent miracle
The gap in my heart
I think no one else but you
Can fully fill up this empty gap

The one who loves me, no one else but you
I am only content in having to protect the happiness that you have given me
The one who loves me, no one else but you
Maybe I will cry while laughing
But the person is you so I'm not tired

Empty Seat

Remember when Mary Jane told Peter Parker:
"To me, you have become just an empty seat." (Okay, it wasn't really exactly that sentence, but you get the gist.)

From then on, I love that line. I wrote in two songs with that word empty seat. It's crazy, I know. It just shows how uncreative I am.

:(

Niwayz.

This is a song that can be sung by both guys and girls. I mean, if a guy like Victor Wong sings it, it works. If a girl like Fan Fan sings it, it works too. But she sang quite a number of songs about being a friend to the brokenhearted...da da da.

So same old story.

I need new ideas.

Rough translation:
Your dimple's gone
Lost in the midst of breakups
He's quite nonchalant don't understand
Loneliness is quite cruel

Can't focus on life (at first i wrote can't focus on exams...cause i really can't focus on exams now! GAH!!!)
Emotions is like the whirlwind, restless
You can only be patient, not letting your tears fall
Replace sadness with joy

He has already forgotten what you have been giving
He has already replace your seat
He's holding another person's hand
He's not coming back
You used to wait for his red rose
Instead all you got was an empty seat (there you go!)
The luggage is packed waiting for you to say leave
Slowly you will find back deep love (true love lah it means)

Emotions can be suppress for a while
Don't break free it will be suffering for life
You really want to forget him
Memories just don't quite follow

In the darkness you fall about
He didn't leave you any light
You really want to hate him for being such a jerk (haha...i'm not on anti-guy mode. i'm serious)
It's only forgiveness that can set you free

(if i'm on an anti-guy mode, it will go like this...)
He's already forgotten what you gave (shouldn't have given him that rolex.)
He's already replacing your seat (i'm replacing the car seat now.)
He's already holding another person's hand (she's gonna suffer)
He's not coming back (good for you)
You don't need to wait for his red roses (i like pink ones better)
Because you wait and wait its gonna be still an empty seat (tickets for sale!)
The luggage is packed just waiting for you to say leave (go baby go)
Slowly you will find your love again (good for you, worse for him)

Sunday

Study

Need to study.

Looks like there's more than it meets the eye.

I have slacked for one week.

Now it's time to restart my engine.

Last semester, can't go wrong.

It'd be crap if it goes wrong.

Why do they even have exams?

Just wish that all will be MCQ (multiple choice questions), harder never mind, at least still can tembak. (shoot)

Now, the only thing I can do is goreng. (fry)

Gah. I admit, I am lazy.

Thursday

I'm Not A Good Man

...cause I'm not a man. Haha...

Okay, that wasn't particularly the funniest thing.

But I recently stepped into the shoes of a guy and wrote a love song. Another whimsical attempt. But apparently my friend from Taiwan loves it. And he's a guy.

So.

Tell me what you think.

Rough translation:

I'm not a good man
But I'm a better one that you've given credit for being
It's easy for you to love me
Easier than for me to love you

I'm not very good with words
Nor am I very romantic

But
I love you
This I'm sure
Very sure
Baby
You're the only one
Touching my heart
Yeah, that's you

I admit I'm quite ignorant
Don't know your true feelings
You said you are heartbroken
Don't you know that when I hear it I also feel hurt?

I don't want to feel the pain of breaking up
Breaking up is not my wish

Because
I love you
This I am sure
Not shaken
Baby
You're the only one
Teaching me how to love more
Yeah, it is you

There's still time there's still chance
For you I keep improving myself

Because I love you
This I am sure
No lies about it
Baby you're the only one
That I love till it hurts
Yeah, it's you

Baby, you're the one
Teaching me how to love more
Yeah, it's you

I'm not a good man
But I'm a better one than you give credit for being.

And guess where I got the inspiration from?

Sherlock Holmes!

Hahaha. I'm serious!

Accountability

Accountability: what does that mean?

In a nutshell: Accountability is simply being responsible for your actions.

I learned it through my leaders in church and I realised how irresponsible I have been. And because of that, I am learning how to be more responsible and accountable.

So I get a little annoyed when people don't play their part.

I get very annoyed when they go and 嗆聲 (argue back) at me, as if I'm the one to be blamed.

For goodness sake, if you don't know how to manage your time, don't blame it on people who push you for datelines.

Very well, you can all go and say all kinds of things. Whatever it is, I'm not someone to be bullied like a doormat. I don't care what kind of personality you have, laidback or not. If you can't deliver, I can wait. But waiting has its limits.

Yes, I am very annoyed now.

Goodness, please go and learn how to manage your time and stop giving excuses, plausible or not.

I feel like I'm apostle Paul talking to the Philippians regarding confidence in the flesh.

"If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless." (3:4b-6)

So if these people think that they have excuses, I can have more.

The key:
Don't take up more than what you can handle. We are not created to be superheroes. If you need to say no, say no. Don't be nice about it and end up annoying another person. Unless you are superman and has plenty of time to kill, then do whatever you want.

Another key:
Never overestimate yourself. Know yourself well enough to know what you can do and how fast you can do it. Always give yourself buffering time to sort out any problems you might face. Prepare for the problems to come.

(Just like Peter saying about persecution. "Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you." - 1 Peter 4:12. Though that does not apply to the above statement, but hey, the essence is still: be prepared!)

The last key:
Always be accountable to the people who delegate to you responsibilities! If you find that you will be late, tell them in advance. If you cannot do it, tell the relevant people in advance. It can save your reputation as well!

Bus Stop

Wow, it's been long since I posted a song.

After exams, I hope to try my luck and submit my works to some publishers.

Very exciting!

I wrote this song out of whim. So it's pretty weird lyrics. But I've been writing on whims lately. But I've definitely been writing simpler songs using simpler words. Cause I don't have time to sit down and know some difficult Chinese words like Vincent Fang does.

Some people just need more time to do other personal stuff.

Like me.

Well, here goes:

The song is entitled Bus Stop. Yeah, told you it's weird.

Rough/Literal Translation:

Absentmindedly
I'm missing you
Waiting for you
Could be
Too embarrassed
You are still smiling
No regrets

Too quiet
Didn't ring the bell
Next station
Didn't get any comfort
Time table
I'm not being persistent
But at least should follow (Manglish grammar I know)

Pass by the library once there
Browsed through every memory
Telling about love's bus stop
Filled with carvings of lovers' meeting
Filled with our sad memories

How are you?
Are you happy?
After you step unto the bus, were you reluctant?
Did you forget
There's less one passenger in the car
I'm not well
I can only smile
Miss love's bus
Can't chase after
I'm late

Absentmindedly
Thinking of you
Just waiting
For the bus to return

Yeah, weird. Told you.

A Time For Everything

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

(Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8)

Kau Tuhan adalah Bapaku
Yang sangat menyayangiku
Tak pernah sekalipun
Ku dapati
Kau sakiti hatiku

Kau Tuhan adalah Bapaku
S'lalu memperhatikanku
Tak ada alasanku ragu-ragu
'Tuk serahkan hatiku
KepadaMu

Lord, You're the only comfort. I will still see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

What To Do

I've reached the phase where "I-don't-feel-like-doing-my-assignments-anymore-but-I-have-no-choice-
cause-I-don't-want-to-fail- my-paper."

It's irritating when it all comes upon you like a big torrent of waves and then leave you wet without a towel. After a while, you got so used to the wetness that you'd couldn't be bothered to get dry.

I am frustrated, I am annoyed, and I admit I am quite an impatient person without a sense of perseverance.

However, because of the consequences I will face should I throw everything to the wind and forget about my assignments, exams, my principles (what principles?) and my dignity..

I shall have to stir and strive on.

The holiday looks so tempting I wish it could be here right now.

Sigh. Take my advice, lads:

Plan early and stick to the plan, no matter what.

Sunday

예?

I found out today that the Korean word for busy is either

시간이 없어요 (shi gan-ee obs-so-yo) = No time

바빠요 (ba bba yo) = busy

And I am reminded of the fruit papaya.

But I still love Korean language anyway.

Thursday

Reach for the stars

I don't know why they say reach for the stars and not the sun?

Reach for PLUTO!

That is more like it.

I have decided to turn my "jack of all trades master of none" weakness into a strength.

Yes, I can be jack of all trades, but I want to polish all jacks to turn them into some kind of queen at least. No need to be king or master but works.

No, not aiming to be multi-talented. Just aiming for Pluto. Never mind if Pluto's not a planet anymore.

Edit (for) Me

Remember Alice in the Wonderland when Alice goes saw this bottle called "Drink Me" where she shrinks, a cake called "Eat Me" and she "hulk-ed" herself.

I wish there is an "Edit For Me" button which I can push to edit other people's assignments, especially those with weaker language skills, cause I don't want to rewrite the whole thing for them (that would be MY work) and yet, I don't understand sometimes what they are trying to say.

That's why I think it is very necessary to know a few languages and try to see if Chinese or BM fits the English. (you know, the literal translation thingie)

Not saying my English is fabulous but it'd be great to have that "Edit For Me" button nonetheless.

On another note:

Maybe it is the brown colour scheme, or maybe my schedule is seriously heavy, or maybe I am tired, but somehow I am not sure if I should move my blogging habits to my Pixnet once and for all (i.e. shutting down this blog). But I still do need to maintain my English writing skills. (yeah, right.)

Decisions, decisions.

Tuesday

The Thing About Holidays

Nope, haven't started any.

I have a whole line of plans I want to do during my holidays.

Then, what do you know? My dad asks me to get a job.

Gah.

That just took my plans in another direction.

And I need to finish my script.

Sigh.

Yup, that They Kiss Again.

The one I reviewed recently.

So if you haven't watch it, you have watched It Started With A Kiss and would like to know what happens to Xiang Qin 湘琴 (Ariel Lin 林依晨) and Zhi Shu 直樹 (Joe Cheng 鄭元暢) after their weird wedding....catch this at 7.30 p.m. every weeknight!

Photobucket

Now, the chance to re-watch that in big screen.

That was the ending theme song for the show....lalala...

ENjoy.

This Is Home

I was so caught up in writing up the review that I forgot about other essentials.

Ladies and gentlemen, one of my favorite bands, Switchfoot have contributed a song in Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Yes, if you ask me, I will want to watch it over and over and over again.

The magic has not lost its effect.

Ask me again two years later, I'll say the same. I have said the same for Narnia: Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. Ask me in 2008, and I want to watch that 2005 production.

Similarly, ask me in 2010 when Dawn Treader comes out, and I will say Prince Caspian was nice.

Haha.

Don't know leh?

Check out Switchfoot's "This Is Home" video with snippets of Prince Caspian...

Today, We Fight!

Just came back from watching Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

I was right to restrain myself from watching the trailer and reading spoilers before and when it came out.

And it was worth it.

I sat in the cinema, middle seat, and I was awed to the max.

Okay, well, not awed to the max, cause there were some points in the movie which I thought was a little inappropriate, strictly from the book fan's point of view.

Beware, since this is an adaptation from the book, and me being the book fan, it is important for me to notice every single detail of the movie and compare it back to the story and note the changes and similarities.

If you have not watched Prince Caspian, I advice you to stop reading and go watch. No, seriously. Cause I'm giving spoilers already.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

And so Narnia started with the crossing of two stars in the night where Caspian's aunt gave birth to a son. Note that Miraz is just a steward, not king as was in the book.

Caspian runs, chased by Miraz's men...

Peter and the gang misses Narnia dearly...

In an afternoon, the four found themselves back in Narnia and in the ruins of Cair Paravel.

Caspian sort of fell into a prophecy bandwagon as was with the case with Peter and the gang.

Peter wants to be the boss, Caspian is also wanting to take up his kingly calling.

And ooh, there was some romantic tension between Caspian and Susan. (No point trying to hide their names, cause it's quite obvious. Takkan it's Peter and Susan since they are siblings, nor is it Lucy and Caspian cause hello, Lucy is like some small girl...don't even talk about Narnians or the Telmarines. That would be totally way out of the logic.)

And wars wars wars...watch the wars. It's more intense than Lion, Witch and Wardrobe 3 years ago.

And in bookly style, Peter challenges Miraz to a duel, using the same words that was penned in the book.

Aslan comes to the rescue, and all is saved. Reepicheep lost his tail and got it back...

Peter and Susan no longer can come back to Narnia and so left with heavy hearts...

Now, to serious stuff.

...

Adaptation never sticks to the original storyline. Same goes here in Prince Caspian. I can understand cause C.S. Lewis wrote about Peter and gang first, being sucked back into Narnia without them and readers knowing why, whereas in the movie, audience will know why they are being sucked back. If screenwriters had followed Lewis' style, the movie would be harder to grasp.

But that's not all.

The professor who helped Caspian escaped and escaped later in the book was caught himself in the movie. And that professor can't do no magic. Sigh. I was wanting to see some tricks or something along that line.

Caspian only knew little about Narnians, as his nurse didn't exist in the movie, and so he was very shocked to find Trumpkin the red dwarf and the whole lot of other people. (and so blow the horn)

And whatever happened to the warning that Professor Cornelius gave to Caspian about Susan's horn? Well, I suppose they must have him blow it in the first 15 minutes of the movie, if not, the story would have been a whole lot more boring and confusing.

Peter and gang knew very soon that they were in Cair Paravel as opposed to the book where it was through consuming a handful of apples that the four started questioning. I felt this part was done too hastily though. The book mentioned that they were breathing Narnian air and sort of got back their kingliness and queenliness after a night in the ruins. But one hour (well, supposing one hour, cause it was all in a day, not even reaching dark.) into frolicking on the beach, they got their kingliness back and could fight and all that stuff, without the sun setting.

Caspian, after being saved by old Narnians, appeared to know everything and Peter and gang couldn't recognize Aslan's How, which was like...odd. Cause it was the reverse at first.

And then when Peter and Caspian led a surprise attack on Miraz's castle, they lost many Narnians (remember I said there was conflict between Peter and Caspian, nicefully done there, though it wasn't in the book) and all hope was being despaired of, Caspian got tempted by a hag and a werewolf (which in the book, he knew full well about these creatures and was fighting them from the start, but he knew nothing about them here. Again, odd.)

Once enemies of Narnia, such as the minotaurs who fought alongside the White Witch, now join hands with the good side of Narnia.

The road that Peter and gang took to get to Caspian had a different approach, though Lucy did see Aslan and here very much similar to the book, she only talked to one tree to try to wake it up. And in the book, the sequence of them seeing Aslan was Lucy, Edmund, Peter, Susan and Trumpkin. Susan was very doubtful about Aslan, not Peter. Aslan appeared to all four of them even before they reached Caspian...

...

What I loved about the movie was the parts:

One was when a despondent Caspian was confronted by Nikabrik (the black dwarf) and the hag and werewolf team who presented the White Witch's wand (which was back in shape and could be used...I thought it was destroyed by Edmund in the first movie...) and got the White Witch's spirit up, covering a wall carving of Aslan. That was spectacular as this showed the temptation that even enticed Peter. And how Edmund stood against it and break the spell was great.

Though it was not clearly shown how Peter and Caspian made up and worked together (it was done with Cornelius counseling Caspian and Lucy counseling Peter..?), the second battle was so cool. Susan was the Xena in this movie, shooting the arrows and using the bow to hit the enemies. Caspian leading the underground attack and Peter finally showing his true High King-ness. Edmund shined as well.

The other cool part was when the river god rose against the Telmarines and consumed Lord Sopespian who built the bridge under Miraz's orders. Though in the book, the trees and a faun were the ones who broke the bridge over Ford Beruna, in the movie, a roar from Aslan got the river god standing up...which its face looks a bit like Gandalf. HAHAHA.

The cool part was when the trees woke up, much like LOTR, they participated in the fight but instead of walking Ents, the trees swam and used their roots to strike.

The fight sequence isn't as powerful as LOTR, but it is strong enough to give some kind of battle-feel.

Everything about Aslan is cool, 'nuff said.

Everything about Reepicheep the rat is cool, 'nuff said.

...

Prince Caspian is a nice movie. I'm not exaggerating. It has a less kiddish feel as was shown in Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. It has more battles and all of them looked more intense. Though not much blood was spilled, but you don't need gore to make something believable. If you have not read the book, the movie will not make you question at some parts. But if you have read the book, don't try to be too picky, because of knowing the book you will appreciate the screenplay more. I write scripts, I know how it needs to be changed to dramatise the story. But they didn't go too far away from the story.

However, watch in the cinema. Or with a 42 inch or more TV, with surround sound.

GO, WATCH PRINCE CASPIAN! Ben Barnes is quite good-looking. And Skandar Keynes is quite a man now. William Moseley still shine as a High King, but he needs to be more intense, I think. Hehe. Besides, you won't find another battle like Prince Caspian's until "The Last Battle" I think.

Sichuan, Hear Me, Dears

Recently because of the earthquake in Sichuan Province of China, many people broke down and shed tears.

I tried to restrain myself when I see these scenes on telly. Don't know if it's me or I'm turning into an onion...wait, that was a wrong description. But anyway, couldn't cry about it, so then I turned to the one thing I can express my emotions through. Yes, blogs, one. Yes, drama, another. Yes, songwriting, the ONE.

It's a simple song and it's for the victims, especially those who lost their loved ones and think that there is no tomorrow or something along that line. I'm beginning to like my songs and hate them at the same time, so please be patient while I sort through some language issues with myself:

"Hello, Miss Chinese speaking Rebekah, you have improved in your Chinese lately."

"Hello, Miss English speaking Rebekah, seems that you are still more comfortable in English, aren't you?"

Sigh.

"Hello, Miss Korean speaking Rebekah, you are still quite poor in this language and all you always say is 'ah-ee-ggggggggo' and 'cham', don't you?"

Yes, back to the song.

Rough translation:

Nobody knows
If tomorrow will be here
Nothing is predictable
Like the mist, the clouds, it will all disappear

The pain of losing
Is something you can't forget for the rest of your life
Unspeakable words
Can you hear it?
Can I hold your hand?

*
Dearest you
Don't ever give up
In the desert
Just haven't reach oasis
Dearest you
I am still here
Hope is still dependable
The sun still shines
Accompanying you until the day brightens again

It's only in the dark you can understand the brightness of light

It's quite a nice song. Haha. HAHA.. syok sendiri.

Dah. Nak tidur dah.

Help! I'm Becoming Anti-Social!

That pretty much sums all that I want to say today.

So, to my friends who think I'm turning anti-social anytime soon, please take me out and I promise to shut up or talk more...and definitely smile more.

I will be more entertaining as a companion.

Okay, that sounded like some desperate, psycho girl.

Haha.

Having said that,

I AM NOT DESPERATE.

'nuff said.

One Question, One Plea

I posted this in my pixnet blog, and I know I said before that I don't want to post any more songs here, but since some of my readers are not Mandarin-reading, I should be kinder. So, yup, I'm posting some of my writing

Rough translation:

A lonely person trapped in betrayal
Two revolution three bleak nights
Feeling has already disappear like the smoke
The road grows long lonesomely
In front of me
The darkness swallows my stretched hands

The heart's cries, who is to be the judge?
The sadness that one goes through, who will be comforting?
The body is already tired and sick of it
Tears are like blood that flow
Bruises are pain unhidden

The unknown expression of the eyes
Coldly pierce through trust
Abandoned Alone
Left one person to face it
Your real character
Is revealed by your betrayal
Relationship dies
Unable to return
Do you really not care?

The road that one faces
Don't be in deep sleep any longer
Love is when you turn back

...Or something like that.

It's a song about betrayal, whether by a friend, lover, relative or whoever. Very implicit stuff.

Sunday

Run.

While everyone is droning on and on about the fantastic-ness of Iron Man and the mediocrity of Speed Racer, here I am, finishing on my pilot episode and reviewing dramas.

One sentence: I still love "Butterfly Lovers".

Until now, they never fail to make me want to watch that series again. And I wish either AEC or ShuangXing will play it. But Astro might not play it since it was played in WaTV...but still.

See the reviews here and part 2 here.

But today I'm not reviewing that.

I'm reviewing on a recent Hong Kong TVB show called "A Journey Called Life" or 金石良緣 acted by Steven Ma 馬浚偉 and Linda Chung 鍾嘉欣 and the legendary 肥貓 鄭則仕 Kent Cheng.

I watched this after seeing the preview on Astro On Demand Preview Channel (Ch 302). And I was interested in how the story will turn out.

Plot (Warning: Spoilers!)
Onn (Steven Ma) is the disciple of Kam Sek / Fei Lo Ban (Fat Boss) (Kent Cheng) who operates a stone chiseling factory. KaKa (Linda Chung) is a delinquent girl who hates her stepmother and also her father, to an extend. KaKa feels that her father cheated on her mother and cause her mother to get into gambling and consequently dies.

Photobucket
Forget the first three and the last two. The middle is Linda Chung as Sze KaKa and Elaine Yiu as Hana. Well, if you really must know, the guy on KaKa's side is her ex-boyfriend who runs a handphone shop with her.

Kam Sek loves to help everyone in his apartment area and treats Onn more like a son than his own son, Roy (Raymond Cho 曹永廉) which Kam Sek's wife spoils.

Onn's father loved marathon but died when Onn and the sisters were still young, so Onn quit school and went under the tutelage of KamSek. Onn proceeded to become a real master in chiseling and KamSek is proud till he decided to sell the factory to Onn, much to Roy's (who's in the share buying habit) dismay.

Photobucket
Fala Chen as Vicky, Raymond Cho as Roy, Steven Ma as Onn and Angelina Lo as KamSek's wife.

Onn's 1st sister Vicky (Fala Chen 陳法拉) loves money, wanting everything branded. She got into the company where Roy and his boss Mr. Tung (Cheng Tse Sing 鄭子誠) are in. Roy always try to gain favor with the boss till willing to give up his girlfriend Vicky for success.

Photobucket
Mr. Tung and his sidekick, Ben. Mr. Tung is a womanizer who wants Vicky as his lucky charm.

Onn's 2nd sister Moon (Helena Wong 黃卓慧) is a simple university girl who fell in love with the simple, dyslexic boy of KaKa's household (KaKa's 3rd stepbrother). Through an unexpected pregnancy, Moon and Heng (Stephen Wong 黃嘉樂) got married and though a little childish sometimes, they symbolized a simple but happy marriage as opposed to Vicky's tremulous affair with two men which got Vicky and Roy into really hot water.

Photobucket
The two behind are Heng and Moon, Onn's youngest sister and her husband.

KaKa, under the guidance of Onn and KamSek, changes for the better, especially after losing her friend Hana (Elaine Yiu 姚子羚) to a case of drug overdose.

Photobucket
Fei Lo Ban was thinking of a way to make KaKa run with Onn during Onn's practice for the marathon.

Then the story goes, KaKa fell in love with Onn and through a marathon, they both officially became a couple though 10 years apart in age. Married, pregnant, lost the baby due to Vicky's drunk driving...KamSek lost his house because his wife took it and sold it off to help Roy in his debts.

Photobucket
Maggie, after nearly got raped by KaKa's first stepbrother. Notice the difference in Linda Chung from the previous picture.

KaKa lost a friend but found another in Maggie (Queenie Chu 朱慧敏) who was the supervisor in Mr. Tung's cosmetic company till got kicked out by Vicky. KaKa also reconciled with her father when she realised the truth that her mother was a gambler all along. KaKa also reconciled with her stepmother after she lost her baby and the stepmother, who fell sick after kicking the husband out of the house and realizing the people who really loved her (like her third son Heng which she also kicked out because his determination in marrying Moon and her husband) as opposed to people who loved her money (her own 2 sons and daughter).

It was a story of happiness, lost and found. In the end, it was KaKa who got her husband to run again (meaning to not give up in life) after Onn felt like it was all his fault that Vicky turned out that way (loving money over family, giving up her values, aborting her and Roy's child, "killing" Onn's unborn baby, killing herself in the end with sleeping pills and a whole bottle of expensive liquor) and that he could not save his daughter.

Photobucket
KaKa showing Onn that he shouldn't give up being a nice guy just because he failed once. They look like husband and wife here, not brother and sister.

Roy at the same time finally got the understanding that KamSek loved him very much, just didn't know how to express it, till KamSek felt that he was a failure as well. Roy finally realized his mistake after in a spur of anger, injured his own father.

My thoughts on this drama...

It's been quite sometime when Kent Cheng acted. And I wanted to see how Linda Chung will do cause I didn't think that her chemistry with Steven Ma was sparkling enough. Besides, the plot sounded interesting.

Well, it is interesting. I find the occupation of KamSek and Onn are a new thing. I mean, which show talks about people who carved tombstones? Anyway. Though in retrospect, the plot gets cliched since it's around the same story about happiness lost and found. But I like this show due to its nicely interwoven stories and FAST timeline. One episode can have KaKa getting pregnant, and two episodes later, KaKa lost her 7-months old baby. Hong Kong dramas tend to be fast-paced and it's good.

Photobucket
2nd row: Lo Co and Tam Suk (both are KamSek Factory's faithful employees), Maggie, KaKa's father and reformed stepmother.
1st row: KamSek's wife, KamSek (why he looked so angry here I have no idea), Onn's mother, Moon and Heng (look how they hold hands on a hot day)

It is a sweet story for Onn and KaKa who went through some minor obstacles to be together, though after they got married, their story dimmed and it wasn't very detailed on how they cultivate their love even after marriage and how KaKa really becomes accepted as a new person. However, I especially liked the part where KaKa told Maggie that she was worried for Onn as Onn is too naive because he had not went through big storms in his life as how she had. At first it was Onn who was the stronger hand who held the helm, but in the last episodes, KaKa took over.

Photobucket
Onn and KaKa in their wedding. This was when her stepmother suddenly barged in and stopped the wedding proceedings. Here, they looked the most like lovers.

It was a sad story for Roy and Vicky, especially Vicky. On their quest for success and riches, they both lost it all and Roy would have to live with the guilt of his greed for the rest of his life. Vicky, well, at least she reconciled with her brother who earlier on, disowned her before her death.

KamSek was the only one who remained quite unwavered until the last few episodes when Roy lost everything. He loved to talk about philosophy and tried to be the peacemaker and negotiator, using his philosophical point of view.

Photobucket
Vicky after her abortion, kicked out by Mr. Tung and disowned by her brother.

The ending was a bit of a blah. KamSek suddenly got his house back (whatever happened to the previous buyers), and KaKa's stepmother was like "Later I will treat everyone in my restaurant!" in inexpressible joy. What was oddest was that KaKa walks towards Onn and told him, "I'm pregnant!" when before her first pregnancy was more of like a miracle cause she had a problem in conception. It was like as if there's no way better to end that part. But oh well. Don't they all end this way. And then all of them hug and rejoiced together. Lalala...though it was a proper ending, I kinda wished that they could have ended it in a less dramatic way.

Photobucket
Happy family picture. Notice the baby bump on KaKa. This was just moments before her accident.

Linda Chung were great when she was still in her bad-girl dressing. Then she became very mellowed-down and became this 180 degrees changed woman who speaks gently and very understanding and also cries frequently. Oh well.

Steven Ma is always a good actor. Like his acting, acted like as if he's really a human. Sometimes characters can get too nice or too bad or too patient and sometimes it annoys you.

Photobucket
I find that in the last episodes that Onn and KaKa looked most like lovers.

The chemistry? So-so. Sometimes they acted more like brother and sister rather than lovers. But that maybe just me.

***

Conclusion: It's not a bad show, can get a little addictive, can get a little frustrating with the characters but hey, that's drama. And it's a Hong Kong drama. And where Hong Kong drama is concerned, there is always the element of heavy drama.

Enjoy.

They Kissed...So What?

It Started With A Kiss 惡作劇之吻 started with Ariel Lin's 林依晨 F class character (袁湘琴 / Yuan Xiang Qin / XQ) falling head over heels for Joe Cheng's 鄭元暢 high school's genius (江直樹 / Jiang Zhi Shu / ZS). Through all the desperate attempts for XQ to get ZS to like her, XQ suddenly felt that she should just give up ZS and just move on. But of course then, there won't be a sequel right? There won't be a story even.

Photobucket
Definitely my favorite actors: the best talent Ariel Lin and the equally dashing Joe Cheng

Obviously ZS fell in love with XQ's determination and simple-mindedness and her stubbornness in wanting to do something for others.

As the line repeats itself:

"She can't do the 90% that I can do, but I can't do 10% of what she can do." - ZS

So, ISWAK ended with the wedding of the lovebirds...which I thought it was totally ... 無理頭...or KUSO if you would have it in Taiwanese terms.

Photobucket
Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin in a photo shoot. No, this is not in the drama. This was where the Japanese girl got married though.

Photobucket
This was shown in the dramas in intervals where XQ and ZS were taking wedding photos. Notice ZS's hair, indicating the first season of ISWAK. The first picture had him in a more mature haircut. At first I thought it was not so nice, but it actually fitted him and his character well.

And then They Kiss Again 惡作劇2吻, the sequel to It Started With A Kiss started last year in December and lasted for about 20 episodes....70-90 minutes each episode...yup, in Taiwan nowadays, people watch dramas for 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Amazing.

So anywayz. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Photobucket
The poster.

They Kiss Again started with the honeymoon to Guam, where ZS speaks English and XQ has no clue. XQ wanted to enjoy the honeymoon but was interrupted by this cute but annoying Japanese girl who took a fancy to ZS....

Photobucket
A sleeping ZS was harassed by his new wife who wanted badly of his attention, till she actually went all the way to play the wedding video in the plane for all to see!

The story goes. XQ is still very unsure of ZS's love for her because he is so cold and unable to express his feelings (as contrasted to XQ's hilariously idiotic fantasies about him), therefore she got very vexed when he seemed to be so cool with her and with everybody else.

But of course, throughout the course of the marriage...

XQ met up with ZS's grandfather...and at the same time with the dead great-grandfather...

XQ failed her uni, so she can't graduate. She was so frustrated with ZS who reacted so unkindly to her (which was what was needed to be said anyway) that she actually ran away from home and him. ZS, being still so clueless on being an affectionate husband, does nothing. Ends up with XQ nearly got kidnapped and who came to save her? None other than the brother and the pet dog!

XQ had a new friend named Christine, who's an exchange student from England. Lo and behold, while Jiro Wang's 汪東城 Ah Jin 阿金 is still suffering from a heartbreak in the course of XQ and ZS's marriage, Christine actually fell in love with this blur and .. blur chef...

Photobucket
Christine and Ah Jin during the confrontation of ZS and XQ which ZS acknowledged how jealous he was.

XQ wanted to try teaching. ZS thought it was the most absurd idea that his wife should ever think about. She got into training, and she ended up teaching A Class where the brother is and F class where a girl who likes ZS's brother is. Obviously, she failed. But she did get appreciation from her students anyway. At the same time, she tried to be her brother-in-law's matchmaker...

ZS was improving as a doctor. XQ now wants to become a nurse and help him. She got into nursing school, and met a bunch of friends, where Danson Tang 唐禹哲 (Gan Gan 幹幹), Figaro Ceng 曾少宗 (Qi Tai 啟太), Cai Yi Zhen 蔡宜臻 (Zhi Yi 智儀) and Jiang Pei Zhen 江佩珍 (Ni Na 妮娜) were her classmates.

Photobucket
Nina, Qi Tai, Zhi Yi, XQ and Gan Gan. All of them are fans of ZS (except QT) and wanted to see who ZS was married to. XQ that time had kept the secret that she was married to ZS, to keep it low key...imagined the surprise when they all knew that she was the WIFE!

Figaro Ceng's character Qi Tai developed a crush on XQ and tried to replace ZS. Wow, that got the couple really in deep water. So deep that it was few of the most heart-wrenching episodes.

So what you know? From then on, XQ realised how jealous ZS got, and realised that he actually loves her.

Photobucket
It's always all these less "passionate" gestures such as a hug, a quick kiss and how he would touch her face that made the romance really sweet.

And for the remaining episodes, XQ discovers how ZS loves her, while ZS discovers how to express his love more.

Yup, no more breakups from that point. ZS learned to smile more, learned to hug his wife more, learned to comfort and encourage her more...very alike to the manga Itazurana Kiss created by Kaoru Tada.

Oh wait, there was one more breakup. ZS was enlisted for the army and he left XQ for a year plus. It was really a painful sight for XQ cause she missed him so much that she actually studied real hard to pass the nurse exam. This was when some characters grew. But it was really sweet part cause she learned not to depend so much on her husband and she matured as well. As you watch further episodes, she finally becomes a good wife (aside from the still-terrible cooking) and finally found her real purpose on being a nurse.

Of course there were a few differences from the manga, especially the last episode. Since Kaoru Tada could not finish the mange due to her erm...untimely death, the last episode was a little different...just to end it.

Photobucket
Petty Yang and Candice Liu, XQ's best friends from first season.

There were also side stories, obviously.

Photobucket
Aaron Yan's character Ah Bu finally realised what a fool he is to let go of Chun Mei.

There's the story of Aaron Yan's 炎亞倫 character Ah Bu 阿布 and XQ's best friend from school Petty Yang's 楊沛婷 Chun Mei 純美 who got pregnant and wanted to marry Ah Bu. Ah Bu wavered a little then realised what a fool he was to lose Chun Mei, and despite Ah Bu's mother's meddling and chastisement, they got married and gave birth and she's in peace with her mother-in-law.

There's also the story of Ah Jin and Christine. Christine was so much like XQ that she could not get her mind of Ah Jin and tried all her ways to let Ah Jin notice her. With ZS's genius sarcasm, Ah Jin was forced to come to terms with his feelings and the next challenge was to get married to Christine...

There's also the story of the brother Yu Shu 裕樹 and his admirer Hao Mei 好美. What started off as a childhood reluctance turned to a teenage romance between them. Yup, they were the only ones minus one who "grew" in the show, played by different actors.

There's also other stories which binds the story together and made it interesting. There was that annoying grandmother who was XQ's first patient in her training who adored ZS so much that it was scary. There was also an appearance of Taiwan's new boyband, Lollipop's 棒棒堂 Prince 王子 who played as Yu Shu's childhood friend, Ah Nuo. He was also one of those who "grew" in the show.

Photobucket
Lollipop's Wang Zi, who acted as Arnold (Ah Nuo), the sick boy from first season.

What I like about TKA was the portrayal of the marriage life of the lovebirds. We seldom get marriage life in idol dramas. And it was a refreshing watch. Though the storyline was similar to Itazurana Kiss, there were all the idiosyncrasies that was unique to the show. Sometimes it gets a bit out of hand, a bit KUSO till it was lame, and sometimes it gets overdone (especially the making love parts!)...

I watched TKA because of Ariel Lin for her acting and the soundtrack. TKA this time though does not have a vast variety of newbies as was in the case of ISWAK's soundtrack, they did showcased Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng's voices (no, not in a duet.) A simple ending song "You" was done in two ways: Fun and Melodramatic...and Ariel Lin delivered in both. Though I still like the slow version, the fast version was a fun song to listen to. Cute.

Photobucket
From L to R: Jiang Ma Ma (who is the best mother-in-law ever), XQ, ZS, Yu Shu (the grown up, not as cute as Zhang Bo Han from the earlier episodes, but equally charmingly sarcastic) and Jiang Pa Pa with their Xiao Ke Ai the dog.

Overall, TKA did not fail my expectations. Though sometimes I felt that they drag the story because of that 70-90 minutes show (it's no joke writing 74 minutes script) and therefore made it a little shallow, lacking some substance...but bear in mind, it's not an action movie. There isn't a racing segment like some idol dramas (think Rainie Yang) or stiff competition (think Rainie Yang again) or punching men like in all your favorite Korean dramas.

However, I did wish that they could just get over with the making love sections. Not that Joe Cheng couldn't kiss or that it lacked passion. I just felt that when you push it too hard, it will fail. Maybe because I like subtext...play SUBTLE. What is not shown sometimes bring more excitement. And for that matter, he does kiss her neck so very often. One would think he would kiss her forehead more (since he's like a head and a bit taller than Ariel).

Director Qu Yu Ning 瞿友寧 made a cameo yet again as the same person in TKA. It was totally out of the script but hilarious.

TKA all in all has great actors who pulled it off naturally. Ariel and Joe played very well as a couple, and the show does not leave people like me feeling like there's nothing to be learned. Whatever it is, TKA taught and proved one thing: Marriage is hard work, but the results are worth it.

Read more about They Kiss Again and detailed synopsis in their official website.

Photobucket

Enjoy TKA, cause I enjoyed it more than ISWAK. It was a good growth that all the characters went through.

Summer Rain

Summer is a hot season.

But sometimes it will also rain.

I wish for this girl to play the lead role...

Photobucket
Ariel Lin Yi Chen

I think she can pull it off perfectly, the way she devote herself to her roles is seriously worth applauding. And it's something new...I hope.

La la la...I've got my heads in the clouds.

And I got an idea of the guys I want for the band...

Photobucket
David Chen
Sings. That's all that's important. Though I think he looks a bit old. Maybe he can become the doctor.

Photobucket
Nicky Lee
Big-sized. Can sing. Haven't seen him acting. Love his singing.

Photobucket
JJ Lin
Can write songs. Play drums as well as piano and guitar. But he might be too big after taking a lead role. Aiks.

Now I need to look for a drummer drummer who's not as big as JJ but still can act. Aiks. Maybe just throw in some good looking young boy. HAHA. He can learn drums on his way.

La la la...I'm crapping nonsense.
